
Paul Alivisatos
President, University of Chicago
Paul Alivisatos is the president of the University of Chicago. He is also chair of the board of governors of Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi Research Alliance. Alivisatos was previously executive vice chancellor and provost of the University of California, Berkeley, where he was also the Samsung Distinguished Professor of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, founding director of the Kavli Energy Nanoscience Institute, and director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. A scientist and entrepreneur, his research in nanomaterials has demonstrated key applications of nanocrystals in biological imaging and renewable energy. Alivisatos’s inventions are used in biomedicine and QLED TV displays, and his scientific advances have yielded more than 50 patents. His many honors include the Welch Award in Chemistry and a Priestley Medal.
