Joanna Smith-Ramani is managing director of the Aspen Institute Financial Security Program, overseeing programs that address financial security for all. She was previously senior innovation director at Commonwealth, where she developed innovations to improve savings and financial capability. Smith-Ramani has led national and state legislative campaigns resulting in the passage of laws expanding savings innovation across the nation. An expert on financial security and inclusion, she’s been quoted in media outlets including The New York Times, National Public Radio, and Fox Cable News. She serves on the boards of the CASH Campaign of Maryland, A Wider Circle, and the Lilabean Foundation, and was selected to the 2017-2018 class of Leadership Montgomery.
