Jane Wales is vice president of philanthropy and society at the Aspen Institute, founder of the Global Philanthropy Forum, and host of KQED's "World Affairs." She was previously senior director for science and technology on the National Security Council and associate director for national security and international affairs in the Clinton White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In the Carter administration, she was deputy assistant secretary of state. Wales chaired international security programs at Carnegie Corporation and at W. Alton Jones Foundation and directed the Rockefeller Brothers Fund Project on World Security. She collaborated with Robert McNamara on the book Out of the Cold. The international arm of the Physicians for Social Responsibility won the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize during her tenure as CEO.
