Continuing Medical Education for Physicians and Nurses

Aspen Ideas: Health has partnered with the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower to offer Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) for members of the medical community.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower and the Aspen Institute. The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower designates this live activity for a maximum of 26.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

A maximum of 26.75 contact hours may be earned for successful completion of this activity.

After attending Aspen Ideas: Health, clinicians should be able to:

• Describe how technology is shaping health care in two principal domains: research (CRISPR, artificial intelligence) and patient autonomy (wearable diagnostics, telemedicine).

• Identify how the social determinants of health manifest in three arenas: socioeconomics (the impact of wealth and income disparities), ethics (to deliver care requires a common bond or mutual obligation), and mental health (how the social contract governs our perception of brain health).

• Review current research on aging that 1) examines how we can qualitatively improve our experience of the aging process and 2) explores the link between chronic inflammation and the increasing incidence of age-related chronic diseases.

• Explain the impact popular culture has had on three aspects of health care: fertility (e.g., sexual behavior, contraception), drugs (opioids and other psychotropics) and music (does it lead or follow societal shifts in behavioral norms?).

The Annenberg Center assesses conflict of interest with its speakers, planners, managers, and other individuals who are in a position to control the content of CE/CME activities. All relevant conflicts of interest that are identified are thoroughly vetted by the Annenberg Center for fair balance, scientific objectivity of studies utilized in this activity, and patient care recommendations. The Annenberg Center is committed to providing its learners with high-quality CE/CME activities and related materials that promote improvements or quality in health care and not a specific proprietary business interest of a commercial interest.
